The Iditarod

Cow here again, writing from the chilly state of Alaska where I'm competiting in the Iditarod sled dog race. Instead of dogs, my team is made up of five squirrels. We were off to a great start this morning, until, two minutes into the race, the squirrels decided to run up a tree. I held on as we got higher and higher. I sat there in my Easter basket I was using as a sled, trying to think of how to get back in the race. Finally, I had it! I'd stored some acorns in my bag as a treat for the squirrels after winning the Iditarod. I threw one down to the ground.

The squirrels hurried down the tree, my lead squirrel grabbing it. I leaned over the side of the sled and rolled another acorn like it was a bowling ball down the Iditarod path. The squirrels followed it. We were really moving! That is, until I ran out of acorns. That's when I had to dip into my own stash of food.

Because I had planned to sell pickle juice at the finish line, I had packed plenty of pickles (I squeeze them for their juice). I began throwing pickles on the trail--the squirrels liked the pickles even more than the acorns.

We ended up making it across the finish line only twenty hours behind everyone else. My best time yet!
